JONESBORO, Ark. — Senior Paul Rice (Beardstown, Ill./Beardstown) led the Bradley baseball team, as the Braves downed host Arkansas State, 11-5, Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.
Junior Chris Wright (Rochester, Ill. /Rochester) (1-0 overall) scattered five hits over seven innings of work to earn his first career victory as a Brave.
Offensively, the Braves were led by Paul Rice who went 4-for-5 with three runs batted in, including two doubles. Senior Ryan Curry (Downers Grove, Ill./South) went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in, including two doubles of his own.
The Braves pounded out 15 hits, six of which were for extra bases. Rice got the scoring started with a two run double in the top of the third inning. The Braves never looked back as they added five runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach, including another run scoring double by Rice to get the scoring started.
Bradley improves to 2-5 on the season with the victory, while Arkansas State falls to 5-5 on the spring.
The Braves will be back in action Saturday as the head to Cookeville, Tenn. to take on Tennessee-Tech in a three game series. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is set for Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
