PEORIA, Ill. — The Indiana State men’s cross country team claimed the top five positions in the university division race, including champion Scott Keeney, to score the minimum 15 points and win the 23rd annual Bradley Open on a rainy Friday night at Detweiller Park. On the women’s side, individual champion Heather Stembridge led a pack of four Indiana State runners in the top 10 of the university division race to help the Sycamores win the team title. The Bradley men’s and women’s teams both turned in third place finishes.

Keeney’s 8K time of 25:38 beat out teammate Kyle Walsh by five seconds for the university division crown. Michael Disher, Jared Messman and 2007 champion Scott Koressel rounded out the top-five for the Sycamores.

The Sycamores claimed the top two finishes in the women’s university division race. Kayla Alexander finished second, eight seconds behind champion and teammate Stembridge, who finished with a time of 18:52. IUPUI’s Brittney McDuffee was third in a time of 19:01.

In the university division race, Bradley sophomore Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) led the Bradley women’s team with an eighth place finish, running the 5K course in a time of 19:33. The top-10 finish was the second in as many weeks for Goldkamp. She was followed closely by a pair of teammates in sophomore Lauren Fog (Harvard, Ill./Harvard H.S.) in 11th place with a time of 19:36 and junior Amanda Switzer (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem H.S.) in 12th place in a time of 19:38. Junior Rachel Brubaker (Davis, Ill./Durand H.S.) was the fourth BU runner to crack the top-20, finishing the race in a time of 19:51 for 15th place.

Bradley sophomore Andrew Wieser (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central H.S.) finished 10th in the men’s university division race to lead the Braves in their third place team finish. Sophomore Brian Tyne (Polo, Ill./Polo H.S.) was 17th in 27:36, followed immediately by freshman teammate Tim Owdom (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) with a time of 27:40 for 18th place.

In the college division, Illinois Wesleyan claimed the women’s title, while North Central College won the men’s team championship. Kathryn Hague of Lewis University won the college division title with a time of 19:07. Monmouth’s Mary Kate Beyer, an East Peoria Community High School graduate, was the runner-up in a time of 19:22.

Running unattached, Nick Hird won the men’s college division race with a time of 25:18. North Central’s Mike Spain was second in a time of 25:33. Both Hird and Spain finished ahead of university division champion Keeney.

The Bradley men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to action Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota. The men’s race is slated to begin at 12:10 p.m., followed by the women’s race at 12:55 p.m.
